New Advisory

This year’s advisory is designed to get students ready to become better students, and show their Eagle Pride. “The advisory this year is aiming towards being beneficial and educating for students,” said Mr. Boone, Assistant Principal.
Last year’s seventh period advisory only served as an extra period to help prepare the students for their TAKS, and for additional help in their classes. However, instead of having a complete period for advisory, the administrators eliminated block schedule and incorporated a thirty- minute intervention into the beginning of each student’s fifth period.
“It’s pretty good although it’s different from last year’s eight periods,” said Charles Strickland, a sophomore.
Staff wanted to provide an extra push for students both academically and mentally and also to help build better relationships with one another. “We believe that last year some progress was made with the students but not enough. We want to be to a certain point academically and mentally as far as student’s attitude,” said the assistant principal.
Teachers teach about ways to interact with each other, keep the school clean, stay in dress code, and other ways to improve the school during the advisory lesson.
One of the most popular lessons during advisory at the beginning of the year was the concept of “E.A.G.L.E.” E.A.G.L.E is apart of the concept students learn; with each letter standing for specific things that students need to do to become a true Eagle. “I really like having my own class of students and not just a random group, along with the online interactive workbook,” said Mrs. Aris, a teacher.
However, the thirty-minute intervention is not in plan to end soon. Administrators are cracking down and want students to follow rules and ultimately in the end start to shine with their Eagle Pride.
