Cross Country:
In the district cross country meet sophomore Will Stovall led the varsity boys to district championship. The varsity girls lead by Maegan Cowan, came in 2nd losing the district title by only one point
The varsity cross country team has started the season off with a win. The boys placed first out of eleven teams in the Ennis Lion’s Den Invitational. Team members that placed were Simba Walker, 6th, Cloyce Session, 12th, Anthony Burney, 17th, Will Stovall, 23rd, Jared Hewitt 31st, and Jerrell Cook placing 53rd out of 109 runners. For the varsity girls Jamethia Cook placed.
Football:
The DeSoto Eagles had great season this year winning 4 of their 5 district games
The highflying Eagles, led by quarterback Ryan Polite, averaged 400 yards in the air and 45 points a game in the first four games of the season.
The varsity offense is number two in the 5A area with 1,370 passing yards and 806 rushing. On the other side of the line the defense is ranked seventh limiting opposing teams to a total of 472 passing and 627 rushing yards.
In rushing, Marcus Murphy is ranked 12th with 430 yards and eight touchdowns. Also Murphy is ranked number one in scoring with 13 touchdowns and 82 points. In passing, Polite is number two with 1,356 yards and 12 touchdowns. Ranked number three in receiving is Darius Terrell with 406 yards and four touchdowns.
The Eagles started the fall football season against the Cedar Hill Longhorns a game billed as the “Beltline Classic” Unfortunately for the Eagles the Longhorns caught up to win 44 – 41.
In the game against Duncanville the Eagles dominated the field scoring 64-23. It was a career night for Polite who threw for 479 yards and 4 touchdowns. Those touch downs were made by Sam Ajala, Antoinne Jimmerson, Murphy, and Darius Terrell. Two scores were added on the ground by Murphy and one from Rushing. Kicker Manuel Contreras was 8 for 8 on PAT kicks. The offense gained over 700 yards while the defense held Duncanville under 250 yards of the total offense forcing 5 turnovers.
The Eagles varsity football team entered the play offs after losing to Tyler John Tyler 40 – 41 in the last district game, giving the Eagles second place.
Their first play off game took place at the Waco ISD Complex against Bryan ISD. The Eagles beat the Vikings 40-0. The Eagles next took on the Skyline Raiders in what some would call a rematch because the Eagles where in the same spot last playoff season. The boys traveled to SMU’s Ford stadium to take on the Raiders. Unfortunately for the Eagles this would be their last playoff game, losing 36 – 41 to the Skyline Raiders.
