Tigers Unable To Stop Eagles Flight
Midway through the season The DeSoto Eagles face off against the Mansfield Tigers in a game that was well fought,but stricken with miscues and penalties.The game is kicked off early with a score from Eagles #11 Kadarrian Nixon.The successful PAT gives The Eagles the early 7-0 lead.The Eagles gave away many yards in flags and penalties,guaranteeing The Tigers an easy score,tieing the game at 7-7.
The Eagles fire back very quickly with 51 yard touchdown run by #12 Jaylin Nelson which put the game at 14-7. Jaylin Nelson quickly proved himself as a star player and a go to guy that would be useful for the rest of the game and season. After the score,The Tigers had the ball for a while and made short yardtage until they turned over the ball.The Eagles got the ball but their drive ended in a turnover as well.Incomplete passes got the better of the two teams,making this a very interesting game.As a whole,both teams were unable to put up big yards or another score before the first quarter ended.
The second quarter begins and The Eagles come out strong with a scoring pass to #8 Akile Davis.The game is now 21-7 and The Eagles are seemingly in the midst of blowing out their opponents.This changes quickly when the Tigers prove that they are not out just yet by passing to their #49 FB Brian Williams for a 35 yard touchdown,making the game 21-14.The Eagles get the ball back but are unable to do anything with it due to more flags and penalties. They attempt to punt it,but the giveaway is blocked and returned for a quick and easy Mansfield touchdown.
With the game tied up at 21-21 both teams are still in fighting condition and things do not seem to be slowing down.The Eagles get possession and #12 QB Jaylin Nelson directed a very risky play as he moves around in the backfield,runs up,passes to #1 Kevin Thomas,then Thomas runs,fumbles,but it is then recovered in the endzone for a total of 81 yards and a touchdown.The Tigers fire back by blocking the following Field Goal attempt and preventing the Eagles from getting the 7 point lead. Game is now 27-21.
The second half starts with The Eagles kicking it to The Tigers. The Tigers are stricken with incomplete passes and are forced to punt the ball off as their momentum dies down.The Eagles get the ball and make their way up the field then,#21 Larry Nixon runs it in for a touchdown. The Eagles get their point back on conversion for 2 and secure the 35-21 lead. The ball changes hands a few times and neither teams are able to get points. In the final minutes of the 3rd quarter,after several flags,penalties and miscues,the Eagles #12 finally connects to #11 for a 12 yard touchdown on a fake handoff turned pass. The game stays 42-21 for the 3rd quarter.
As the game winds down,the penalties go up and up,but nontheless the teams are still playing ball. The Eagles are forced to turnover on one of their first possessions.The Tigers are stricken with flags from delay of game,facemask,etc. The Eagles are able to capitalize and quickly put up another Touchdown,finalizing the game at 49-21. From there the game drew out and in the end the Eagles prevailed.
“We came out sloppy,a little bit distracted,but a win is a win and that’s what matters,” #35 Chris Orr said.
